Conservation

After realizing I was ready to move on from academia, It took a few years to figure out what was next for me. And then a bit longer to get up the nerve apply for jobs. But after identifying my marketable skill set (which was hard with 20+ years of training for a very specific career), I’ve found my home on the Indian River Lagoon.

The Indian River Lagoon is a 156-mile long estuary that runs along 40% of Florida’s east coast. It is one of the most biodiverse estuaries in the U.S., hosting thousands of plants and animals. It’s also in peril from nutrient pollution, an overabundance of freshwater runoff, and overfishing. Marine Resources Council – my home base – is charting a SEA change, using science, education, and advocacy to restore the Lagoon to a sustainable balance.
